WeiserMazars' 2012 Water Study
WeiserMazars’ 2012 U.S. Water Industry Outlook was designed to address the key areas of operations, finance, and technology trends and solicit the industry’s thoughts about the future. The participants confirm what the 2011 American Society of Civil Engineers report, entitled “Failure to Act” insinuated; "that the United States 54,000 community–based drinking water systems and the 15,000 public wastewater treatment facilities are old and decrepit and in dire need of larger/expanded capital expenditures."
The Study participants acknowledge the gap in financing needs and 28% of our participants agree the cost of upgrades and modernization financing is critical. The EPA’s estimate of the capital cost of modernizing drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities that supply 264 million people is $91 Billion; however capital funding is estimated at only $36 Billion, leaving a capital funding fissure of $55 billion.
